All,

A really wierd thing happened today on our systems, the
systems in question were XPe, but I am not sure it does
not happen on XP.

We have a system with a USB Plug and Play camera, the
install for the camera happens normally when it is
plugged in, but when we pull up a shortcut that is
http://<machinename>/site is comes up not found. If I
change it from <machinename> to localhost, it works. If
we reboot the controller, it works. But if you swap to a
different camera, it happens again.

A search through msdn and a couple through google have
turned up nothing, so I am hoping someone here has some
insight into this behaviour.

Thank you in advance,
David

Hi David,

I guess you are talking on xpe.It is strange that a Plug and Play USB
device tampers the resource of IE.shouldnt happen.hmm Did you try it
more than once and getting the same problem. You might need to
investigate the common resource that is shared between the Device and
IE..Track the Device installation and identify the resource..

Jst give a try ..

Kesavan,

It is on XPe, I am not sure if it would happen on XP or
not, I have not tried that.

It looks like the issue is actually with IIS, since if I
type into the url: http://localhost/mysite instead of
http://machine4/mysite the site, which is local, does
come up.

I can on this platform recreate the issue at will.
I start the computer, plug in the device, point my
browser at the existing local website, and get an error.
If I use localhost instead of the computer name in the
url, it works, if I reboot the computer, it works
normally again.
I can then plug in a different device, and as long as IE
has not cached the page, it will not come up.

I find this very puzzling. And linked to either IIS or
the OS.

David
