Robin

As of Friday night, I kept on getting this message after
re-installing Windows. When I turn on my system, I get
the message "Please choose the operating system"

1. Windows XP Professional
2. Windows XP Professional

It never gave me this before. Prior to Friday, I had a
prior error message with Windows and had to re-install
Windows. It was re-installed on Friday night. To protect
myself and my documents in the setup process, I named
it "WINDOWS1". Now my registery, my history, cookies,
temporary internet files, cache, etc. are dependent upon
Windows1, not Windows.

I have not removed it because I do not know a safe way to
remove the old directory and rename the new to Windows.

Anyhow, what can I do about the selection process when I
turn on my computer?

Hi!Robin!
[winkey]+[break] > system properties > Advanced > settings under start
up and recovery > Edit default OS > remove the unwanted one > save changes
also make the timeout=0 > ok
or you can also:-
start > Run > msconfig > boot.ini > select the one which you want as
default >ok
also timeout=0

Hi Robin,

Delete the old system folders, but do NOT rename the new ones (unless of
course you want to do it again). Start/ru nC:\boot.ini and remove the line
referencing the unwanted system from the [operating systems] section.

Hi Robin,

Go to Start/Run and type in: msconfig
Then go to the Boot.ini Tab and click on Check All Boot Paths. If you
receive a warning about a duplicate path: Do you want to remove, choose
yes.

Or...

Right click the My Computer icon/Properties/Advanced/Startup and
Recovery/Settings/System Startup/Edit.
