Hi and thanks for taking the time to look at my plea for help.
My problems all started when one morning I went to start up my computer
running Windows XP Pro 64 bit, and all it did was to get as far as the
screen where the bar goes back and forth and then re-boot without going any
further. Checked on the web for various ways's to try and sort this problem
out but did not manage to solve the problem. At this point I decided to
just re-install Windows, and guess what it got so far and started to do the
same thing loop. So I decided to back up as much as I could to my second
hard drive but due to it smaller capacity was only able to do so much. The
software I used to do this was Paragn Drive Back and the program was run
form within a dos environment. All went well and the plan was to start the
windows install again only this time to re-format the offending hard drive.
Now what happens is the windows install CD says that there is no drive
available to install it on. I have checked this out by running the repair
option" R" and am able to see a C: drive with all my folders, files and a
windows folder. Can anybody help me to get my system up and running again?
Thank you
Tony

Hi!

OK, according to your description, this may be some kind of lost NTFS
partition link case or alike, but it's quite hard to give a thorough and good
advice how to cure it, as the possibilities/cures are too much case sensitive.

First I would check with Partition Commander or other disk/partition tool
how does it now see this particular disk/partition, is the partition still
there and in which conditiion, the type and the active toggle of it, and how
the boot.ini is directing the booting to it.

Secondly, if applicable and needed, I would try to do the Windows repair
console fixmbr/fixboot correction trials.

If these above are not helping and the partition is otherwise seemingly in a
good condition, I would copy the contents of the partition to a new formatted
disk/partition on that same machine, or anyway exactly same IDE chip machine,
under another "temporary" and good working Windows, but to get this
environment be arranged/found may be quite a burden.

If the above would help, and if lucky enough, there may not anymore be a
need for a re-install at all ...

Best regards,

Pete V.
