I created a list of names in Excel 2003. One name I typed was E'Lan,
Flippin. Later I noticed that Excel had changed the name to look like
this E’lan, Flippin
Can someone please explain what those symbols are in the name? Thanks
in advance for any help.

Well I tried to copy and paste the name as it appeared in Excel, but
when I checked back on my post, it didn't post the strange symbols. So
I will try and explain what happened. I typed the name E'Lan, Flippin
into Excel 2003. Later I noticed that the apostrophe in the last name
was replaced with a small "a" that had some sort of pronunciation
symbol above it(a downward curved arch). There also was a symbol that
looked like the letter "c" with an equals sign through it. Then a
small superscripted "TM". Any help is appreciated. Thanks again.

Not clear on the difference. There are no symbols showing here. Maybe
they don't show in the NG. You may have to describe them.

Weird. They sound like standard symbols, but don't know why there
appeared here. Have you tried re-entering it?

I have reentered the name and as of yet I have been unable to reproduce
the symbols. I did find the symbols in Excel by using the insert >
symbol function. The symbols that replaced the apostrophe are a Latin
small letter "a" with some sort pronunciation mark above it. Also the
Euro Sign symbol and then the Trademark symbol. This is actually the
second time this has happened to me. But I don't know why it is
happening? When I get home i'll try and post a link to a screen shot.
Thanks again for any help.
