I'm running XP HE on a Toshiba Satellite laptop 3000-514.
I keep getting a blue screen which gives the following information:
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_EQUAL
Stop: 0x 000000D1 x (0x 695c7269, 0x 00000002, 0x 00000001, 0xF5ECE450)
SYMTDI.SYS - Address F5ECE450, base at F5EAD000, Datestamp 3d 83eb3e.
Details of Windows error report contains the following:
BCCode : d1 BCP1 : 505C3A47 BCP2 : 00000002 BCP3 : 00000001
BCP4 : F6BA1450 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 0_0 Product : 768_1
The driver error, SYMTDI.SYS, comes from Symantec's live update engine. I
have never installed Norton Internet Security on the computer - I think it
somehow found it's way in during a live security scan I ran through
Symantec's website. I have downloaded and run their NIS removal utility as
suggested by the site, and removed all entries from the registry, but to no
avail.
This driver file is situated in the C:\windows/system32\drivers folder. Is
it safe for me to delete this file, and if so how? Will this get rid of it
and halt the stop errors, or is the only way to format the hard drive?
Any help would be very much appreciated. Sorry this is long.
