So I am running Vista Home Premium (whatever..) and so far I am 1-15 in
burning DVD's. I get a "an error occurred while creating the dvd" message.
I've tried every combination with the speeds, screen type (4:3, etc), and
even changed what discs I was using, oh, and the infamous Oct 31st 2006 roll
back on the clock.
Can someone, if they know how to remedy this, please assist me, or should I
just try and use a different program.

Thanks a ton in advance.

Hey Chris,

I am receiving this error as well when I try burning onto a dvd that doesn't
have enough disk space. I ended up wasting 3 or more dvd+r's until I
realized this. The program was displaying "140/150 mins" for one of the
dvd's I was trying to make. But this in't correct since the dvd+r I inserted
only allows up to your standard 120 mins.

I think this might be a bug with the program not correctly detecting the
length of the dvd+r's that we're inserting. I don't know why it would detect
150 mins, I think the next length after your standard 120 mins goes up to 240
mins for double layered dvd+r's.

I wouldn't know how to go about contacting Microsoft in order to report this
problem, maybe someone in this newsgroup would know how.

Aaron,
Sorry... I get what youre saying.. I do get the 133 minutes out of 150
minutes used... since when are discs 150 min???
I brought it up with the tech guy.. Ill respond later.

Aaron,
I havent noticed how many minutes are on my DVD. I dont even think it says,
but I have been online with "help" so if they solve the problem Ill let you
know.

Thanks for replying,
-Chris

So Aaron, after Dell offered no help whatsoever, I put in a 120min dvd-r, and
added two 30 min videos. Low and behold it read 61 min out of 150min.
Still didnt work. "An error occurred..."

There has to be an obvious simple answer.. I just dont know.

To those having "An error occurred while creating the DVD" message in Windows
DVD Maker, uninstall Divx (if you have it) and reinstall ONLY the Divx codex
(6.2??).
Open Windows Movie Maker, create the file, then click on export to DVD or
something like that on the left, it will say that it's going to save and then
open the Maker. Once the DVD Maker opens, do whatever you want with it, i.e.
titles, scenes, etc. Burn, and it should work. Worked for me.
So for some reason adding .avi's directly to the DVD Maker wont work,
however adding them to the Movie Maker, then saving it as a movie maker file,
will.

I'm having a problem burning DVDs, as well. So far, I've tried
Windows DVD Maker, Nero Vision 4, and Roxio MyDVD 9. Here are my
system specs:

Dell E521:

2.6 AMD Dual-Core X64
2GB RAM
256MB ATI Radeon X1300 Pro

I've tried most often with Nero. Sometimes it will give me buffer
overflows. Sometimes it gives me a power configuration error while
it's burning. And sometimes it will tell me the disk is full (even
though I just put an empty disk in the machine.)

I was able to get it to burn once, using the slowest speed possible in
Nero Vision (6X) and burning the cd as it encoded. Unfortunately,
while that session completed without an error, when I went to play the
DVD I saw that for several seconds the video stops while the audio
goes on, meaning the sound is seriously out of sync for most of the
recording.

Can anyone give me some guidance? I've been through about 2 packs of
DVD's so far.

Thanks!
