Any help would be hugely appreciated. i've had my pc just over a year &
lately it doesn't always start when i turn it on. it freezes on the packard
bell page. . when i do get in my keyboard doesn't always work & my speakers
don't work either (i've bought new speakers & keyboard & still same
problems). i've scanned for viruses & seem to be clear of them. i'm not a
pro with computers but if you are & you can help i will be very grateful.

If your computer is freezing up at startup, before the first Windows
XP logo shows on the screen, then that indicates a hardware related
problem, probably with some aspect of the Power On Self Test.

Next time you start up the computer try pressing the Esc key when the
Packard Hell///Bell logo first shows to clear it. That should show
you the text information from the BIOS power on self test and it may
contain some indication as to the cause of the problem. At least the
point at which it freezes will be informative. Post that information
back here.

Good luck
