Today the unit on Xp decided to stop working on the
network the other 2 are more than happy with each other
tried a new cable and tried pluging the XP unit into the
working cable still no joy.

Tried all the network tools on Xp no Joy tried to repair

contacting my network administrator but that is me!, then
I used the Restore opion on windows I went back about 4
days still same.

Any iteas could you please e-mail me.

Is it a "hub" or a "router" that you use to connect all these machines
together? I presume that you're also connecting to the Internet...

If it's a hub check to see if your ISP has imposed a limit of two IP
addresses (that's what mine does). You may have gotten away with having 3
machines up until now; your ISP may have just started enforcing the limit.
You can run "WINIPCFG" on the 98 / ME machines to see what IP addresses they
have and you can go to a DOS window (command prompt) on the XP machine and
type "ipconfig /all" to see whether it has an IP address as well.

If this is your problem, then (one way) you can resolve it is by replacing
your hub with one of the (very inexpensive) Internet Gateway / NAT Firewall
devices that you'll find in any technology store (e.g. D-Link DI-604 /
DI-704, SMC Barricade, Linksys, etc.) This will also solve another problem
for you - that of having your poorly protected Windows ME / 98 machines
"exposed" to all the hackers on the Internet. Your Windows XP machine is
somewhat better armoured - but only if you've enabled the built-in Internet
Connection Firewall.

Does your network hub use its own (3rd party) software to
configure its connection to the computer and to the
network? If so, try uninstalling it and reinstalling it.
Try reinstalling the software/hardware on the xp unit and
doing everything like new.

I had a problem sort of like this with my network and
setting it all up again like new is what worked for me.
