My pc is acting really strange and i do not know why

i came back after a week away, plugged in my computer and
pressed the on button, on goes the green light but whats
this......silence.....nothings working....its on but its
not doing anything.

I tryed again, several times, but to no avail. I then
unplugged it and waited. Again i plugged it in and it
did the same only this time, after a slight pause, it
whirred to life, only the monitor wasnt working now. I
turned the pc off and started it again, now it all works
again.

Talk about going off on one. I would like to know what
in gods name my pc was messing about with. Please be
aware, the pc WAS PLUGGED IN and the power was on, there
were NO LOOSE CONNECTIONS. What is happening, will it
happen again, is this a major problem.

I await and will grately appreciate all responses

I would suspect a power problem... possibly due to bad connections. Even
though you believe there are no "loose" connections, the connectors can and
will corrode, causing low or missing voltages. Reseating cards and power
cables will help. A clean soft eraser can be used to clean the connectors
on the cards.

If cleaning doesn't seem to help, you could have a power supply problem.
But I would use a meter to check each voltage before blaming it on the
supply.

.
did you have to move your desk to unplug the PC, if so
you might have acidently moved the video card out of its
slot a little , take the side cover off , look at the
chip that you plug your monitor into, take it out but
unscrewing the top screw and plug it back in making sure
to get it in all the way then put the screw back in and
put the case side back on, and plug everything else back
in and start your computer, if your problem persists just
post again.
