Please Help- Lost Admin Rights...

I have googled this and have not been able to find a solution to this..
I hope you can help..

Using XP Home-

I am set up as administrator, yet I no longer have 'rights', even when
signing on as administrator in safe mode.

Even right click Start, explore all users, I do see a bunch listed.. there
is an administrator, and administrator.vinniecompaq, as well as Vinnie
Rinaldi.VINNIE.

Everywhere I look, it seems I have admin rights, yet I keep getting 'you do
not have sufficient...'...

"The" ""Hidden" "Administrator" account that shows in "Safe Mode", does not
work??
i.e. "Administrator"
Don't believe you!!

Or are you talking about "Your Administrator" user account in Safe Mode??
 
Believe it.... Administrator under Safe Mode (the 'hidden' one) doesn't even
have administrator rights!
 
well only you (and maybe not) know what you did to get it in this state.

None of the Administrator accounts have admin privileges?

when logging in on any particular Admin account, you can not give admin
privileges to another account OR even add any type of user account (Admin or
Limited).

I don't know of anything. Looks like you have configured/repaired a few
times to get your username reused as part of other accounts.

If no admin accounts/privileges exist, I'd say you're stuck with a repair or
clean install.

You may have renamed the account called "administrator" to
something else, then perhaps created a new account called
"administrator" which is, in fact, an ordinary user account.

To take stock of what you have, do this:
- Click Start / Run
- Type cmd {ok}
- Type these commands:
net user > c:\accounts.txt
net localgroup >> c:\accounts.txt
net localgroup administrators >> c:\accounts.txt
net user administrator >> c:\accounts.txt
notepad c:\accounts.txt

Now copy & paste the contents of c:\accounts.txt
into your reply.
 
Hope I got it right...thank you.. does this tell you something?? Should
Administrator be plural?

What happens when you try to log on as "Vinnie Rinaldi"?
 
Hi, Pegasus... I saw your reply last night when on a remote computer (using
Google Groups) - I was unable to reply since I am not registered there.. and
for some odd reason, your reply is not coming up here!

But, to answer your question, even in safe mode, login in as Vinnie Rinaldi
or Administrator, neither has full (100%) admin rights to remove
componenents, etc.. Is there somewhere I can look to see what each user can
do, and add all privileges in?
 
I can't say because you did not post the output from the
diagnostic commands I recommended.
 
I thought I posted them properly.. they are in the 2 messages above...
Please let me know if what I posted is wrong, or if you do not see the posts
at all...

Yes, you did - I was confused for a moment. Not only that -
I'm also running out of ideas, simply because I've never seen
anything like this. I wonder if you've been playing with policies.
If so then restoring the system to previous condition would
probably solve the problem.

(It's odd, my server doesn't always show all the posts.. hence why I
asked... oh, well.. glad you saw it.. glad I followed your inx as well..)

It is very frustrating.. in googling around, I see there are ways to adjust
rights in Windows 2000? but not in XP Home...

If something does come to mind, please let me know.. I really appreciate
your help...
