Please Help - Limited User Accounts Do Not work

When I set my wife and kids up with Limited user account,
programms like Outlook and IE don't work. If I create
Administrator accounts for them everything is fine, but
that defeats the object of having separate accounts ie
ref security of my files. How do I get Limited accounst
to work properly?

In Start\Run\control userpasswords2\select user and go into Properties
button\pertaining to groups\change user group to power users.

I have found the same problem with limited accounts. When I try the above mentioned fix and switch to power users I get

The user could not be added because the following error has occurred
The Group name could not be found

then another error window statin

The group membership for blah blah blah could not be update

On top of that it erases the user I tried to modify from the login screen

Please help
