Heres the deal, im basically a entry level network tech , and I lost my job because the network admin, who isnt qualified to run the network at all, says he took my admin privledges away the other night, then the next day i get to work, login, and then they fire me, and say that i re enabled them at the server.

I never touched that server, at all, I never re enabled them at all. My machine is windows xp pro, server is 2000 server
He said theres no way to track it, I now know the audit logs could show what actually happened. What I need to know is how this can happen. Are the admin rights stored locally also? Is it possible when i re logged on my machine i authenticated to a different active directory server that hadnt recieved the updated settings yet. then that was pushed so hed see it through admin tools?

Im horribly depressed, if you can think of any way at all this happened so i can show them i didnt do it I would be very gratefull! PLEASE HELP ME!

Well think of it this way; Non-Administrators are not allowed to elevate
themselves to administrator level. If your boss genuinely took away your
admin rights then there should logically be no possibility for you to
restore them.

If this were possible, then any non-admin would be able to give themselves
admin rights. Why don't you point this out to them?

Since it's almost impossible to elevate your administrator privileges from
user to administrator, you might ask them for proof that this happened. In
addition, of you were supposedly at the server, then as long as the security
logs are enabled and not cleared, you would be able to prove that you did or
didn't logon to the server locally.

basically i think they are sayng he left the server unlocked, and that i got mad and re added them. But i never touched active directory. Im getting shafted because he failed to remove them properly, and failed to login as me to check it. Not to mention my computer was logged on all nite when he changed them,

I'm sorry to hear about your situation and I think you should be
checking with a lawyer right about now. It also sounds to be like the
person that revoked administrative privileges from you should be the one
with his job on the line. I'm not a lawyer but I always thought an
employer couldn't just fire you without proof. If this is the case and
you ask to see the audit logs, they either have to provide them to you
or give you your job back. Like I said, you really should be checking
with a lawyer because this just doesn't sound right.

Good luck,

Sean
