i know, I'm the fool of the year and should have known better.

i tried installing software on my company laptop and a virus message
and scanner came up detecting a virus, said it was handled, and then
said that my system administrator would be contacted.

i wasn't connected to the network or internet at the time and have yet
to connect.

is there any way i can avoid gettng my head handed to me on this one??

anything anyone can do to help is appreciated in advance.

It's possible that your Co has setup the laptop in such away that if a
normal user trys to install software this msg is generated.
Without knowing the exact file that the Av detected, its not possible to say
whether this was actually a virus.
Just be prepared to state that you tried to install software that you
thought would help in your work.

thanks for the reply.

i had successfully set up a few programs prior to that without issue.
as sooon as i clicke don the zip file the "scanner" program pops up
listing four different items and saying a virus was detetcted but was
taken care of. then the system admin would be contacted followed that
message. it seemed legit and isolated to that one file. i was thinking
there might be a log or something i could check, and was wondering how
an automatic message gets generated and sent to my network admin,
etc...

any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated....

Are you sure it didn't say something about you contacting your system
administrator if you start experiencing problems or something like that?
