Please Help! Black Screen after installing SP1a

I downloaded the SP1a and everything seemed to go just
great. It went through the install and into the restart
of Windows. The green bar screen came up and cycled not
quite 2 times. It then went to a black screen and just
sat there. I had to power down the computer and come back
up in safe mode. In the event log there was an error.
Event ID 7026 boot start or system start drivers failed
to load. There was a long list displayed. What I am
trying to determine is why they failed to load. I cannot
find anything about event 7026 anywhere on microsoft...I
have been working on this now for the 3rd day.. Please
somebody help me...

I did as you suggested except the XP cd that I have is
from the vendor who installed XP on the machine. The cd
had a Windows XP Upgrade feature which I chose. It did
the upgrade, but it changed the Product Code and now I do
not have an activated version. Why did it do this?
