Hi,

I am going to replace my old 1.2Ghz Athlon box (btw, I never had a PC so
long before upgrading) with something better.

I need it to be portable (so Shuttle XPC seems to be a good option), and
my PC spends most of its time running Visual C++ compiler - so that
Athlon 64 is probable best option. And I want it to be able to run Doom
II at decent frame rates. And I want it to be as silent as possible.

So here is my planned config:

Shuttle SK83G
Athlon 64 3000+
1GB memory
Nvidia GeForce 6800LE
200G Seagate drive

Will it work together?

Speaking about GeForce 6800LE, I have spotted Gainward, MSI and AOpen
versions. I am interested in 2D image quality (on analog) and noise. Any
experiences?

Shuttle XPC is excellent, and you should have no problems with what you want
to throw in it. However, it's kind of expensive and you only have one PCI
slot. An Antec Aria is about the same size, has a 300W power supply and
will fit any standard micro-ATX board. That means you'd have a great
selection of motherboards and 2 or 3 PCI expansion slots. All your other
components would work great in a Antec Aria. I'd suggest a Gigabyte brand
GA-K8VT800M with that Antec Aria. The total of those two components should
be about 200 bucks or so. With the money you saved, buy a faster Athlon 64.
:) One Gig of DDR400, Geforce 6800LE and a 7200RPM 8MB Cache hard drive,
and Doom II should run great. -Dave

Well, that is interesting suggestion. I will consider that. Anyway, it
might be too big for me, I wanted as small as possible.

Well, in fact, with sound, network and firewire onboard, I can hardly
imagine what good use are those PCI slots for... :)

Anyway, possibility to choose board is really exciting...

Thanks!
