Well, I don't know much about Pivot Tables.

I have this data (sample):

Date PerCent
Date PerCent
Apr 2001 13%
May 2001 34%
Jun 2001 31%
Jul 2001 34%
Aug 2001 50%
Sep 2001 37%
Oct 2001 25%
Nov 2001 28%
Dec 2001 35%
Jan 2002 42%
Feb 2002 18%
Mar 2002 9%
Apr 2002 22%
May 2002 13%
Jun 2002 11%
Jul 2002 36%
Aug 2002 58%
Sep 2002 38%
Oct 2002 27%
Nov 2002 18%
Dec 2002 26%
Jan 2003 29%
Feb 2003 13%
Mar 2003 5%
Apr 2003 37%
May 2003 43%
Jun 2003 35%
Jul 2003 24%
Aug 2003 52%
Sep 2003 49%
Oct 2003 28%
Nov 2003 37%
Dec 2003 13%
Jan 2004 7%
Feb 2004 29%
Mar 2004 18%
Apr 2004 15%
May 2004 20%
Jun 2004 10%
Jul 2004 31%

The "Date" column is an Excel Date formatted to show as displayed above. It is
actually the first of the month.

I want to compare year by year changes for a given month.

I created a Pivot Table/Chart (Date-Category; PerCent-Data) and grouped it by
Months. I then chose to Show Detail. However, instead of being sorted within
each Month by Year, the results are sorted within each Month by PerCent
(ascending).

I can't figure out how to sort the data within each month, by year, using the
Pivot Table/Chart tools.

Thanks for any help.

Hi Ron

In both 2002 & 2003 (not sure about earlier versions but you could always
try) you can select more than one field when grouping - if you select months
& years then it will do what you want. Click on months & then click on
years both will show as selected.

Hope this helps

Group the Date field by Months and Years, as Julie suggested.

Then, move the Years field into the column area
Change the chart to a line chart, and you'll see a comparison of the
years' data.

Thanks to both of you! Got it the way I want it!

Julie's suggestion grouped by years, and then months within each year. But
Debra's suggestion to move the years into the columns area did the trick.

Thanks again.
