6 computers in a network, been that way for a year+, works fine.
a mix of XP, 2000 and 98 machines.

Just went to add two more.
One XP Home SP2 and one XP Pro SP2.
These two see each other but NOT the original six.
The original 6 cannot see the two new ones.

The workgroup is the same on all eight.

If I Ping a specific address of one of the "invisible computers" I get a
valid Reply - so they are there but not "part" of my network.
Internet access works fine for all eight.
Turned off all Firewalls while testing - no help.

Ideas?

If you are absolutely sure that you have set up each of the new machines in
exactly the same way as another existing XP machine, then I suggest a quick
'workaround'.

Rn FAST on another XP system. Don't export all the data [Excel, Word etc]
just the networking setup and user setup.

Run FAST on a new XP machine, and import the file.

See if it now can do all the things you want.

You may have to change user name later [don't delete the old user name, just
'Change the name'. SO John Smith changes to James Brown].

where do I find FAST as it is not on my XP machine?

Files and Settings Transfer Wizard. Yes, you have it. Start, Programs,
Accessories, System Tools, Files and Settings Transfer Wizard.

In any case it won't help with your current problem. You say you "turned
off" the firewall software - if it's not the Microsoft firewall you may need
to uninstall it rather than disabling it. Many add-on firewall products do
not disable completely or correctly.

Pure XP Firewall.... turned off.

Came into this project "in the middle"... someone else did the original
6 computers...
They ALL have NetBeui installed + TCP/IP... I "think" that might be the
problem. Netbeui taking priority over TCP/IP somehow.
But, I took Netbeui off one of the Win98 machines as a test and it still
was not on the network with the two new ones which only have TCP/IP
installed.
