What is the exact error message?

The "ping" requires a valid/reachable IP address (or server name with
DNS running), and a functioning network. Do you have these?

Of course. I have been doing this for years. Like I say, this just started
a few days ago. Thus, I believe, maybe a service got stopped.

Ping is not a service. It's just a program that probes the network.

Are you able to access the local network,or internet, via another
program, e.g. Windows Explorer and/or Internet Explorer? Is the network
working?

Have your network administrators recently changed the network firewalls
to disable use of ping to the internet or internally?

Could be any of a number of things. I can't speculate further.

Would you please in your egotistical way tell all of us who puts
firecrackers in your ass and lights the fuse? Tell us please in your
egotistical way WHY you are so much better and smarter than everyone else on
this newsgroup. Tell us why everyone is a pillock except you.

You pillock, ping is in no such way, a program, but simply a command line
used in a program!

You're just as wrong as ever. Ping.exe is a program, you'll find it (as
ping.exe) under %windir%/system32/ping.exe. Err, you do know what a .exe
file is, don't you? You really should engage brain before using fingers.

That's what I said. "Ping is not a service. It's just a program that

You know of this sort of thing?

Why are you off topic, and where has this topic ever arisen?

You pillock, figure it out for yourself!

Oh dear!

Try opening it on its own, you twit! It runs from a command line only! You do know how .exes work, right?

They work any way they have been programmed .. winword.exe is a windows
program, ping.exe is a dos program. Or are you now going to try to
redefine 'program' in a vain attempt to make black look like white?

=Some= command lines are build in to command.com, or cmd.exe, and could
arguable be defined as 'not programs'. Ping.exe most definitely is a
program, and has been for a long time.

Oh yeah, <plonk>, while I remember

Please, do not feed a troll like Ted by answering him seriously. Trolls are
nothing but a nuisance, they're meaning of existence is nil, zilch, IOW
nothing at all!

That's a wise thing to do, but bear in mind that some trolls morph..:-)
