Hi

If you type

thanks for the reply. I may have inadvertently deleted it, but I do not know
how. It may have disappeared when I got a new security system. (zone alarm)

You didn't answer the question. Did pinball start? If so, then all you are
missing is a shortcut.

If not, verify that this folder exists and contains the 67 files used for
pinball:
C:\Program Files\Windows NT\Pinball

If it does not, check the recycle bin. If it does, double click the
pinball.exe file within it.

Thanks for the help. I found pinball in c:\Progam Files\Windows NT\Pinball.
When I click on it, it opens for a split second (the picture) and than
closes. I cannot bring it up from Run either.

Tried it in safe mode but no help. If there are 67 components to pinball, I
cannot find the .exe file to open. Game seems to start to open for a split
second and than disappears. But thanks for your help.

Go in> Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Add/Remove Windows
Components > Accessories and Utilities. If you click on Details you
should be able to select from Games and reinstall it.

Hi JJ,

Actually, no you can't. You won't find it under there. However, it can
reinstalled by running the pinball.inf file, and this is precisely what the
user should do. It is located under C:\Windows\Inf and simply right click
the file and choose install.

Hi Rick,

Thanks for the correction. Is it because it's hidden with the HIDE
statements in the sysoc.inf file or was it just never there in XP?

John

Not sure, I never bothered to look. But, now that I do I see it does have
HIDE in the sysoc.inf file. I just knew from experience that it wasn't in
A&R.

Thanks for the verification. If you remove these HIDE from the file the
components will then show in the appwiz. (But it's easier to just
install the pinball.inf as you correctly suggested ;-) )

John

Thanks RR,
Opened inf file under Windows and found pinball and pinballinf files. The
pinball file allowed to to "install" but this did not help. Open to any
suggestions. thanks.

Hmmm. Try it another way, maybe it makes a difference. Maybe its
missing a common game file or something. No guarantee that it will work
but it's easy to try and find out.

Find the sysoc.inf file in the %windir%\inf folder. Create a backup
copy. Edit the file and delete HIDE on the games lines. Just remove
HIDE leave the 2 commas in place and do not add spaces.

for example: Games=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,games.inf,HIDE,7
will become: Games=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,games.inf,,7

Remove HIDE on these lines:

Games=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,games.inf,HIDE,7
AccessUtil=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,accessor.inf,HIDE,7
CommApps=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,communic.inf,HIDE,7
media_clips=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,mmopt.inf,HIDE,7
MultiM=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,multimed.inf,HIDE,7
AccessOpt=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,optional.inf,HIDE,7
Pinball=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,pinball.inf,HIDE,7
MSWordPad=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,wordpad.inf,HIDE,7

Now in the Add/Remove Programs > Add/Remove Windows Components the games
should be available to install/uninstall. Install the whole game
package and see if things change.
