Jinny the Squinny

I'm trying to claim the £50 cashback on my new XP
Professional. It says on the form to put Product
Identification Number on it, this is apparently on an
yellow sticker on the case.

I have an orange sticker with the key on it, and a white
sticker with a barcode and letts and numbers on it. I
always thought the PID was the number found in system
under 'Registered to...'.

So I may be being really thick, but what number is it I
need to put on the form?

Thank you.

Hi, Jinny.

I'm not sure which number you need for the rebate form, but the 20-digit
number shown in System Properties is NOT the Product ID that you use to
install WinXP. This number is stored in several places in the Registry as
"ProductID".

But the 25-digit string of numbers and letters on the orange (yellow?)
sticker is most likely the one you need. The sticker that says, "Don't Lose
This Product Key!". That is the Product Key, not the ProductID.
(Confusin', ain't it? And it apparently conflicts with the terminology used
in your rebate form.)

The barcode on the white sticker is probably the UPC, which identifies the
product, but not a serial number.

The PID is the one you get when you rt click MY Computer, select properties,
and look under Registered To:
