photo/images from web download as .bmp - need .jpj

Lately, when I find an image that I want to download and right click "save picture as" the save picture window pops-up but at the drop-down for "Save as type" the only option is Bitmap (.bmp). This happens everytime no matter what the original image is saved as. I don't think this used to happen. Is this a setting or preference that I can change? How can I get it to save as .jpg?

Basically what you have to do is go to Internet Options > general tab
and delete the Temporary Internet Files, cookies and history.
