It seems to be wonderful feature of FP but I would like
to control it instead of it controlling me.

Can I control the number of pictures in the thumbnail
gallery of the Slide Show layout?
Can I have the Caption and the description above the
picture instead of below?

You are basically limited to the functionality that is available within the webbot.

I had the same issues, fought with FP for a long time, and finally gave
up on the FP component. Check out my alternative scrolling photo gallery
at:

I used source code from:

http://www.dyn-web.com/dhtml/scroll/

It was pretty easy to adapt to my own uses and fits the exact need and
you can put your text and pics pretty much anywhere you want. Hope
this helps.
