phone number formatting?

something changed with my outlook - i used to be able to
add a phone number and it would format it with (xxx) xxx-
xxxx. Now it does this: +1 (xxx) xxx-xxxx, which plays
some havoc with my pda phone. Anyone know how to correct
this?
 
Disable the option of adding the country code here:
Contacts Folder > Actions > Call Contact > New Call... > Dialing options...
