Hello, i am not computer friendly! so please explain to me simply.
My pc is running 32 processes idle and using 343RAM which is a really lot so
when i try to do more than one thing the pc freezes or ends task. my mums pc
which is similar to mine is running 30 processes at 143 RAM so i know there
is a problem. Please anyone help!! I dont know how to fix this.
my friend re formatted the pc and i now only have very few programs on the
pc and still i have a problem. i am using PC cillin virus and have sweeped my
pc several times for spyware etc and it has none.
Can anyone think of what i need to do next before i though this machine out
the winddow! It is only 12mth old and had 512Ram
thanks for any help

By themselves, the number of processes running and their memory usage
mean nothing. It's what those processes are doing that matters. So which
of your 30 odd processes is taking up the most CPU time?

That's not a particularly high number; many of us have many more than that.
Besides, the number of processes is irrelevant. However which ones are
running *may* be significant.

lot

No, not at all. Wanting to minimize the amount of memory Windows uses is a
counterproductive desire. Windows is designed to use all, or nearly all, of
your memory, all the time, and that's good not bad. Free memory is wasted
memory. You paid for it all and shouldn't want to see any of it wasted.

Windows works hard to find a use for all the memory you have all the time.
For example if your apps don't need some of it, it will use that part for
caching, then give it back when your apps later need it. In this way Windows
keeps all your memory working for you all the time.

so when I try to do more than one thing the pc freezes or ends
task.

How much memory it's using is not your problem. The processes *might* be,
but there's nio particular reason to suspect them.

Are you sure your system is malwware-free? What anti-virus and anti-s[yware
programs do you run, and do you keep them up-to-date?

If you are just using PC-cillin, I wouldn't be so sure. Note what Eric
Howes, who has done extensive testing on Anti-Spyware
products, states

"No single anti-spyware scanner removes everything. Even the best-performing
anti-spyware scanner in these tests missed fully one quarter of the
"critical" files and Registry entries"

system idle process takes up 99%
memory usage the high ones are tmproxy.exe(system) 82,7000k
IEXPLORE>EXE(tara capewell) 32,096k menmgr.exe(tara capewell) 22,900k
explorer.exe(tara capewell) 19,000k svchost.exe(system) 31,000k
Acrord32.exe(tara capewell) 36,000k
they seem to be the biggest but i have no idea what this means i just copies
them of task mgr. if this is a problem what do i do next? i have booked my pc
in to get another 512 RAM

"System Idle Process" is not any problem at all. That's just the name for
what the system is doing when it's not doing anything. It's there to make
the total add up to 100%
