Reading with interest the issues on Personal.xls. I have a slightly different one...

I cannot open Excel each day, after booting up, on its own. It seems to try to grab the Personal.xls file (which I understand is supposed to be hidden, yet I can see "Personal.xls" in the blue band at the top of the screen) and then gets a memory error opening the file.

I have, until about 1 month ago, always been able to open Excel without issue. I have had recorded macros stored there that I use daily. Now something appears to be corrupted.

How would I troubleshoot my macros for an error that has just popped up?

I'd suggest that you move Personal out of XLSTART (with Excel closed) and
see if you have any problems starting Excel. If you do then following
Paul's advice or reading this article is the next step:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];280504

If Excel starts okay then try manually opening Personal. If this creates
problems then maybe you'll have to re-create Personal.

Personal should be hidden. If it isn't you should save it hidden. One way
to do that is to make a small change in a Personal worksheet, then hide it
(Window, Hide) and then exit Excel. Excel should prompt you to save the
changes in Personal.
