After being upgraded to Windows XP Pro, my PERSONAL.XLS is gone. I have
searched my entire HD (including hidden and system files), but it is gone.
This was a Win2K Pro PC prior to the upgrade, and using Office 2003 Pro.
This is a 2-fold query:

1) What is causing this file to be deleted? The only thing that changed
was the OS, MS Office is still 2003.

2) Is the file backed up anywhere during the OS Upgrade?

Depends how the machine was upgraded. If the OS was upgraded over the top
of the existing OS then i would have expected all user created files (of
which personal.xls is one) to have remained the same. If however you have
had your machine 're-imaged' (and if you are part of a large company then
that is likely) then they will likely have blown away everything on your
hard drive and replaced it with the new image, in which case it is gone.

See if IT backed up your existing image anywhere when they upgraded you.

In addition to just a backed up image, check your IT department to see if
local files are also being backed up. We back up certain users to tape here
so you may have the same setup and not realize it.
