Probably not. The problem here is with the profile, not the PST file. The
PST file is fine. The profile has become corrupt and has established several
connections in the registry that designate one or more PST files as the
default delivery location (Outlook should only have one such connection).
That's why you can't close them.
If you are comfortable editing the registry, you can delete those extra
registry keys. Most people just find it easier to create a new profile from
scratch and then manually set their old PST file as the default in this
profile using this path:
Tools > Email Accounts > View or change existing email accounts > Deliver
new mail to the following location...

Thanks Russ, if I opened a new folder and called it "Stewart's folder"
then
if I understand correctly I could transfer all the contents of the
personal
folders to it and thereafter empty and hopefully delete them.
I have MS Office Professional 2003 and the version of Outlook is
Outlook
2003 (11.6359.6408).
Thanks again.
Then whatever you did corrupted your profile. You'll need to create a new
one and set it to use your current default PST file. Make sure you
know
the
name and location of that file before you create the new profile. If you
need specific instructions you would need to provide your Outlook
version.

Russ, I have tried that but when I click on "close personal folders" I
get
an error message saying that "an object could not be found".
I am not aware of having created these folders, they just appeared.
Thank you.
That would depend on how you created the files.
Normally you just R click and close the folders you don't want.

somehow I have ended up with 3 sets of personal folders in the
"folder
list".
Can anyone tell me how to clear these so that I have only one?
Thank you.
