I recently noticed in the Folders list, I had two copies of my Personal
Folders. In File - Data File Management, I only saw one copy. On a chance
undertaking, I decided to remove it, thinking maybe it would cause
aproblem -- but it didn't. And thereafter I only have one copy in the
folder's list. Can someone explain why this is? Is this a change from
Outlook for Office 2000?

Maybe the other set of folders was from your archive PST. Removing it from
the folder tree wouldn't cause any issues

Thanks Vince. In Outlook 2000, I think the PST file which received mail was
viewable in the same list as other PST files which were pulled in as extra
personal folders. You could examine properties of each, anc Compact. Now, in
Outlook 2003, it seems like the default PST folder is not in the list under
Data File Managent, and I cannot find a way to compact it. I can check on
its size in Outlook Today Properties but not compact it, any way to do that?
OR does it stay compacted now?

Next question, I know that

I think there's some background compacting but you can also compact it by
right clicking on the root of your Personal Folder, choose Properties, click
Advanced then Compact
