Whenever I boot up my PC, the following update message appears in the
lower right corner of the desktop:

Updates are ready for your computer.
Click here to install these updates.

What update is it? Should I allow it to be installed? Thanks.

Hi tenplay,

The update message is from Windows Update. If you want to see the updates
that are ready to be installed, click on the Windows Update icon in the
lower right corner of the desktop, then click in the radio button beside
Custom Install (Advanced) and click on the Next button. The upper field
(Update Title) displays the updates that are ready to be installed. You can
click on the title of each, and see the Details about the update in the
lower pane. You can deselect any of the ready-to-be-installed updates by
clicking in the checkbox (to clear the checkmark) beside the title. To
install the updates that you have opted to leave as selected, click on the
Install button.

Regards,

Regards,

Thanks for your helpful response. The update being offered is XP
Service Pack 2. My work support staff advised against the update
because it interferes with some necessary company functions. So I
turned off the automatic updates in CP.
