Hi *roawa43* :
Hi,
Can anyone help me with the following?:
May be !
1. I want to view my hard drive to determine what's on it.
1- Use the Windows explorer
C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe
and make a shortcut of this program to your desktop, start menu, quick launch bar, etc.
or
Start | Run | explorer ... and explore the explorer features ...
Here a short list of interestings folders :
(Do not move or delete somethings there please...)
C:\Program Files
This is the default folder for the installed programs.
Each program have is own sub-folder.
C:\Documents and Settings
This is the users folder. There are many sub-folders

ne for each user.
You will remarks many different users :
Administrator
Owner (may be... in XP Home.)
etc.
and also some special users:
All users : parameters commons to all users of your system
Default user : a pattern used when you create a new user account
C:\WINDOWS
This is the system folder... which include the following :
C:\WINDOWS\System32
This folder have many different files and folders used by the system
and sometimes by you...
Like those utilities(launch them to see what they are doing...):
calc.exe : the Windows calculator
cleanmgr.exe : disk cleaner (temporary files...)
mspaint : to draw or modify a picture
notepad.exe : to read and write text file
and also those system utilities
(you will find the usage of those ones later...)
(check what they are doing but do not modify somethings at this moment. Right?)
devmgmt.msc : devices manager
dfrg.msc : disk defragmenter
eventvwr.msc : display the system logs (informations, warnings, errors)
services.msc : control the services runnings in bacground
and so on...
2. I want to learn how to delete any persistent cookies on my hard drive.
The cookies of Internet Explorer are located there :
C:\Documents and Settings\"User name of the account"\Cookies
e.g.
C:\Documents and Settings\roawa43\Cookies
C:\Documents and Settings\Claude\Cookies...
The cookies are text files only and can be opened with Notepad.exe
Right click on the cookie icon and chose to open it with notepad.
(hum... not very usefull indeed...)
You can control the cookies (of internet explorer) with the internet
options from IE or from the Control Panel | Internet Options
Look here :
http://cjoint.com/?gjbI3qeZCG
(Well, this is not an english XP but the picture is the same , right ?)
3. I want to learn how to identify these cookies: who is the sender?
Most of the times you can figure out from which site with the name of the
cookie itself or with texte inside...
I believe that I can use the 'Run' program under the 'Start' menu.
Yes you can. And more than that
Or I
might be able to use the 'Command Prompt' program. But I don't know what to
type in the dialogue box-window.
You don't have to do this at this moment.
Hope this will help you.
Let us know.
