After selecting several lines of contiguous text with either mouse or
keyboard (e.g. for a subsequent copy or cut), the marked-up area (i.e. white
letters on black background) persists even after I mouse click or use the
keyboard arrows to move to (or even highlight text in ) a new location. This
confusing problem happens on two machines with completely different hardware,
and never happened with earlier versions of word (e.g. 97, 2000). The
selection should be updated (in most cases, this means returned to normal
black on white appearance) immediately, as it always had been.
