Permissions on folders

I have a simple database on my website which is hosted on a server with
Frontpage Server Extensions installed. I use the database to manage user
logon details.

I want to be able to review and amend the database via webpages but I do not
appear to have permission to write to the database file (MS Access).

How do I set permission on the folder or database file to allow records to
be added via Active Server pages?

Thanks

David

If this is a remotely host server, you host has to set the permissions.

sidebar question:

If you already have an fpdb folder with a db inside it and it's functioning properly (permissions set properly) - you can just add another db for something else into that folder...or no?

Correct.

Hi Thomas/Gordon

Thanks for your reply.

I do have a fpdb folder with a Access database inside. As to whether the
database is working correctly I am not sure what you mean. I can open, view
and amend a local copy of my database through access but I cannot do what I
want to do, which is add, view and amend it via my website.

I have spoken to my hosting company and they have suggested that
"permissions are set via frontpage when frontpage extensions are installed".

What do they mean by this?

Thanks

David

It means that if you let FP create the db and the fpdb folder FP will automatically correctly set the permissions on the fpdb folder.

However some times the configuration of the server, doesn't allow the FP extensions to correctly set
the permissions, in which case the host may need to manual set the permissions or just run a FP
server health check may also correct the permissions.
