I want to back up the full disk drive of an XP pro machine at home. The
backup software and tape are running on a separate W98SE machine. Both
computers are in the same LAN and "workgroup" (I don't use a domain).

The C drive of the XP machine is shared, but I cannot backup the \WINDOWS
directory (I cannot even browse into it).

I would like to add read-write permissions of the \WINDOWS directory (but
only to the W98 username that runs the backup program). I tried to do this
but the "Select Users or Groups" dialog only shows me the users that are
defined on the XP machine; it does not show me the users of the W98 machine.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks,

Gabriel

One more detail: I am trying to share C, not C$. If I try to map to C$
from the W98 machine, it asks me for a password. My admin and other
passwords fail.

Thanks

It's going from bad to worse. Now I cannot browse any directories in the XP
box from the W98 box (I can't even print to the XP's printer, which is
shared). I get a question asking me for the password to access the drive or
printer on the XP box. I never set a password for these devices. All I did
was to create users in the W98 box.

I am totally confused.

Thanks,

Gabriel

Now the last problem is resolved. It seems that if the user of the W98
machine has a password, he has no access whatsoever to the XP machine. By
the way, these users are also allowed access to the XP machine as remote
users. I am totally confused here.
