I have SP2 but I had this problem prior to installing SP2. When I use File
Explorer its sometimes takes 15-20 seconds for FE to respond once I click on
a drive or another directory and file name to start showing up. This is
terribly frustrating. Any speed hints would help

There are services that slow down file access. Many of
these services are not necessary for stand-alone users.
Check out:
ttp://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/supertweaks.htm. Follow
the directions there. Number one tweak of system is to
turn off system restore. Turn it on only when you install
software. Or want to keep it for sp2 problems go ahead
but other services slow down file access. To make life
easier start control panel,
select performance and maintenance, select administation
tools, select services then follow grid at
http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm use "save"
mode settings

Thanks for the response. None of that seemed to help. It seems very erratic
on when it happens but happens to much for my patience. I am still getting
sometimes 15-20 seconds of wait until the files start showing up in
Expolorer or when I am trying to attach a file to an e-mail. Anyone else
have any suggestions.

Thanks agian,
Chip
