performance degradation after sasser

After I acquired and then removed the sasser worm, i have
had performance problems (sssslllllooooowwww). I
attempted to re-install windows xp, but the 25 character
code on my machine comes up as an invalid number. so now
i'm in an battle with microsoft and gateway. Microsoft
says they can't help because it's an oem number, and
gateway says there's nothing they can do, that microsoft
has to fix it. can anyone out there help me?????

You can use Magic Jellybean Key Finder or Belarc Advisor to identify the existing 25 character Product ID on your PC.

Do a google and you'll find links to these great tools.

Print it out and then call MS or Gateway if you have problems using this number again during a repair installation of XP.
 
How old is the machine? From whom and how did you purchase the machine? Are
you the first owner?
