Pentax optio not using XP USB drivers

I connect my pentax optio 33wr camera to the USB port and
turn it on. XP recognizes that a new device is connected
but doesn't recognize it as a USB mass storage device. It
searches for an appropriate driver but does not find any.
I previously used a Fuji digital camera on the same
machine and it always came up as a mass storage device.

Any thoughts on how to get the pentax to connect?

Thanks,
Mark

Thanks Mary.

The .ca site doesn't refer to my model. The pentaxusa.com
site does. It, and the manual I received, both say "If
you are using Windows XP, you do not need to intall the
USB driver. When you connect the camera to your computer
with the USB cable, your computer will automatically
detect the camera as [removable disk]."

If you do try to use the USB driver it fails to install
because it is not compatible with XP.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks,
Mark

Maybe SanDisk?

My sandisk card is compatible with the camera.

I tried connecting this camera to my XP desktop at work -
no problem. XP recognizes it as a mass storage device.

What tinkering do I have to do with my IBM T20 laptop to
get this to work?

Thanks,
Mark

I'm having the same problem with my Pentax El-100. I cannot download pictures to 2 different HP Pavillion A245C computers using XP but can download pictures on my son's custom built computer with XP installed? If I find a solution I will try and post back to this forum.
