Under Folder Options>File Types, PDF files are set to be opened in
Acrobat Reader by deafault.

However, when I double left click on a PDF file icon, it tries to open
with the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer, and I get the error message
that Preview is not available for this file type.

I notice that when I right click on the icon, the top bold faced option
is "Preview", not "Open".\

How can I cure this.

Hi OliverS,

You can go to Windows Explorer > Folder Options > File types, select
pdf, click on advanced options, select Open with Acrobat Reader and
click on default, then click accept and close.

Good luck

Is this a specific file? If it is a specific file, try holding down the
shift key and right click on the icon. You should get an optiont that says
"Open with. . ." You will then have a list of programs displays and you can
select which program to use to open this file. Changes are, the program
used to open this file was changed to Windows Picture and Fax Viewer and
your machine is using the parameters set on the file instread of your
default opens.

If that doesnot solve your problem, try looking at the file extention and
make sure it is set to PDF.

Good Luck
