This has taken a serious turn. I can not open my on-line bank
statement, which is in PDF format, and must be downloaded through
my IE6 browser.

I have experienced IE6 - PDF problems since installing SP 2, but
found that I could right double click on the link, then save it
to my desktop, then open it with no further problems. My Adobe
reader seems to work fine from this perspective.

I have tried disabling my AdsGone 2004 Pop-up blocker, my McAfee
firewall and virus scanner but this doesn't help.

I can't save my bank statement PFD file to my desktop since it is
password protected and I have to get through the password, then
the PDF file should open with no further action on my part.
Instead I just get the small rectangle with the red X in it.

What can I try next????

Try, check browser settings, Edit, Prefernces.

Thanks to all who responded. I did an uninstall of Adobe Acrobat
Reader, then downloaded a fresh copy and installed it. This cured
the problem. All is well that ends well, or something like that.

One way to get a printout of a "protected" PDF is to install
CutePDF and then "print" the PDF to another PDF.
