Dear All:
When I close a *.pdf file as downloaded from a web site
that then causes an error and closes my IE 6 Browser.
When I open a *.pdf file that is already on the hard disk
there is no problem ( even if a browser window is open).
I using Windows 2000 and Office 2000 with all the
upgrades and patches. Hardware is HP 8755 with
192 meg of Ram.
Any creative suggestions would be very much
appreciated.
Best Regards

Check your system for "hijackware":

Dealing with Hijackware

http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm

CoolWebSearch Chronicles

Important: You *must* seek updates for Ad-Aware, Spybot, etc., before each
and every use, even "right out of the box". But even they can't catch
everything, 24/7. When all else fails, HijackThis
(http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post
your files to http://forums.spywareinfo.com/ or the HijackThis Logs forum at
http://forum.aumha.org/ for expert analysis, not here.**

Also update your virus definitions and then run a full system scan. From
now on, do both daily.

[Many anti-spyware sites continue to suffer from a week-long DoS attack.
Alternative download pages for Ad-Aware, Spybot, HijackThis and CWShredder
may be found on this page: http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm.]

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?

Dear Sir:

I have checked this possibility several time. I use Spybot
regularly and use Norton full scans as well.
This seems odd to me why Adobe pdf files would
close the Browser only when a file is downloaded
from the net. When the same file is opened from the
hard disk there is no problem??

Best Regards

Spybot S & D needs to be updated before each use and even then it doesn't
find everything.
See
Dealing with Unwanted Spyware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.
CWShredder is also available here:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/cwshredder.zip
**Post your HijackThis log to

Alternative download pages for Ad-Aware, Spybot, HijackThis and CWShredder
may be found on this page:
http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm.
If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
in the same thread.
