After downloading IE6 - as suggested by Microsoft Tech -
in order to download a security patch for Windows 98, I
now can't open PDF attachments ot incoming email. I had no
problem opening PDFs when operating under IE5.x.

I'm less interested in how it happened and more interested
in what steps I can take to allow my Outlook Express
program to open PDF docs that are attached to incoming
emails.

Can anyone help me?

Did you set the .PDF file type to open with Acrobat Reader? This is usually
files don't open- the default application for an extension type is not set.

What is the exact error message? Is it IE or OE or both?

Have you un-installed Adobe Reader, then reinstalled it? Using latest
version from www.adobe.com? Have you checked their support resources?

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

does this apply:

hit forward, then save the attachment :)
It's a new security feature to prevent accidental opening of viruses, either
by yourself or scripting. you can disable it in tools | options | security,
but I think the extra effort to hit forward is safer and well worth the
extra click.

Ask in an Outlook Express newsgroup. (Hint: Tools>Options>Security)
