PCI Controller Hardware Problem

I just had a strange problem with my computer tonight. I bought it
this past November, Windows XP Pro OS.

I first noticed the problem when I was trying to uninstall a game on
my computer. When I went into the Control Panel and clicked on
Add/Remove Software, no programs displayed.

So I restarted my computer.

After restarting it, I got a "New Hardware Found" (I didn't install
any new hardware) and a message popped up about a PCI Controller.
When I clicked on the tray icon, it said it could not find it. I have
no idea why this occurred as I wasn't doing anything before then that
would have anything to do with it..I was renaming files in Windows
Explorer.

After that, my CD player stopped working. When I put in a CD a
message came up that told me to insert a CD in the tray. ???

Next I ran my AV software and did a complete scan. Nothing.

Next step was a system restore, and that fixed the problem, as my CD
rom works properly. (BTW, I checked the hardware profile before the
restore, and it said my CD player was working properly.)

The system restore listed some renamed files, the original names:

URLMON.DLL
BROWSEUI.DLL
shlwapi.dll
WININET.DLL

I have no idea if any of these have anything to do with my problem,
but I thought I'd list them anyway.

What could have caused this problem? Should I do anything else at
this point?

Try a System File Check if you have a WinXP CD. Go to Start>Run
type: sfc /scannow Have the
Winxp cd in the cdrom drive.
