Hi,

need some help with my computer. After changing my CPU settings in my
BIOS, and trying to reboot the computer, all I got was a black screen.
The power is working, apparently, but nothing happens on the screen.
What to do???
Thanks.

/Z.

Since you apparently get back into the BIOS and redo the settings you
changed - which must have been wrong - then drain the motherboard
battery (or use jumpers) to clear CMOS. This will take the BIOS back to
the default settings. Refer to your motherboard manual to see if you
can just change some jumpers to clear CMOS. If your motherboard doesn't
have this ability, remove the motherboard battery and let the machine
sit unplugged for a while. It can take only a few minutes or all day;
it just depends on your hardware.

Re-enter the BIOS and return to the correct settings.

Should be a setting within the BIOS to load default settings, or something
similar. Choose that.

You should post to a hardware group for this kind of question. It's not
an XP issue.

What did you change and why?

Presumably whatever it was was incorrect. Go back and put the correct
settings back in.

You are now, obviously, trying to run your CPU, RAM etc. "out of spec". If
you don't know what you are doing the result may be just what you are
experiencing.

Do as others have said and remove your M/B battery for about 1/2 hour. Then
put it back in and boot. Your computer will be running at it default
settings.

What is the point of changing settings then resetting the BIOS? I can
understand changing the settings back, and it doesnt work resetting the
BIOS, but .......

The OP changed some settings in his BIOS. Now (as I read his original
post), his computer won't boot. I read his post as saying that he
couldn't get back into the BIOS to change the settings back to what
they were. Maybe he can; the meaning is ambiguous. If he can't get into
the BIOS to reverse what he did - which obviously was wrong and
disabled his computer - then resetting the BIOS to default will undo
his changes and he'll be able to boot. If he *can* get into the BIOS
and he really meant to say that his computer can't boot the operating
system, then all he needs to do is reverse whatever it was he did.

Change them back to what worked before you fiddled with what you didn't
understand.

Most motherboards will reset the bios if you hold page up when the computer
is turned on. Mine does anyway
