Pc won't shut down

Hi,

I just installed winxp. I was previously running winMe as my os. I made a
complete installation and just not an update. Everything went fine but when I
tried to shut down my computer a screen appear telling it was now safe to
turn off my computer (It was shuting down by itself with the previous os) and
when I used the shut down button on the pc it didn't shut down it only
restarted. Everytime I tried it only keep restarting. And I'm not pressing
the reset button just in case some were wondering . So If anyone have
information on how to solve this it would be greatly appreciated.

I'm currently using winXp pro on an AMD Duron 700 mhz.

I go this after I installed XP on a system that had ACPI disabled in the
BIOS settings.

See Step 5 for the simplest fix.

Address scrambled. Replace nkbob with bobkn to reply.
