Hi,

Does anyone have advice for this? I had a seemingly
successful reinstall of WinXP Home. Only a single file
(Heart.wmz would not copy and I had to ignore it to
continue.) I got into XP and proceeded to try to
reconnect to Internet. Plugged in my network cord (have a
hub/cable modem) but couldn't get online. So, I thought I
should reboot - that maybe the computer needed a reboot
to recognize that I plugged hardware in (doubtful wtih
XP, but who knows...when in doubt, reboot). Well, it't
stuck at the memory test and won't reboot. Can't even get
into the BIOS or ESC to skip the mem test. No different
any tiem I try to reboot and can't even power down unless
I phys. cut power.

Strange, eh? Thanks for any thoughts you have.

Ok, get this guys. I've been playing with this a bit more
and finally got the system to boot to the BIOS, where a
huge warning explained that the system was operating in
safe mode and said something about CPU speed (improper
speed on the external CPU or something like that) and
speed was reset to 100 MHz. So, I'm back in XP but not
really running.

Does anyone think I may have a bad RAM stick? I'm
suspecting as much at this point. How would I check that?
Just take one out at a time adn see if the system runs
better? Not a really reliable test. Do I need a pro with
specific equipment?

Linda,

The file Heart.wmz is NOT part of a Windows XP install. What type of Windows
XP media are you using that tries to install that file?
