Hi,

I have a new laptop and a PC as well, both running XP. I have tried
to form a connection between the two, in order to transfer files
between them, and am having real problems. Can anyone tell me what I
can do, or point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

Assuming that both machines have a network card or port, get an ethernet
crossover network cable and connect that way. Make sure it's a crossover
cable.

Better long term method is to get a router and connect both machines to that
(with 'ordinary' network cables). If your laptop is wireless enabled - way
to go.

On each computer, right-click the FireWire (IEEE 1394) connection,
click Status > Support, and note its IP address. It will probably be
in the 169.254.x.x range.

To access the other computer using FireWire, type the other computer's
IP address in the Start > Run box in this format:

\\w.x.y.z
