Is there a driver similar to SPEAK.EXE that will work with Windows 2000? I
am trying to use the PC speaker for audio, or at least .wav files.

SPEAK.EXE allowed this in previous versions of Windows, however it doesn't
work in Win2k. Considerable searching on Google has turned up nothing.

Thanks.

Very true. The speaker is no longer directly addressable. You need to have
the speaker added as a sound device as a sound chip. This would be done
with drivers through the MB manufacturer or the maker of the computer.

This is not something that is in the Windows API. You may be able to find
other libraries that directly interface with the card, but then you'll need
one that supports WAV input and that you can address from within windows....
and good luck there, though I would guess that there is one out there, but
you'll have to shake the nerd tree pretty hard to find it.

Over the years I've seen at least a half-dozen such utils for Win2000.
Sorry, no references handy, but a Google search should be productive.

Okay, thanks much. I have an IBM Netvista running Win2k and have the driver
for the PC speaker for that machine, but as you say, it is from the MB
manufacturer.

That's a good one. I guess I haven't shaken that tree in a long time.
