Hi,
I've had a problem where my pc restarts, sometimes during intense parts of
games or sometimes while using multimedia cd roms. The sound also seems to
gets stuck leaving me with a constant drilling sound. I've tried leaving the
side of the pc to allow more ventilation, but to no avail. Someone has
suggested that my power supply is either knackered or not powerful enough
(300 watt). Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Rob

I had a similar problem a while ago. After five minutes of play in a 3D game
the machine would restart or lock up with a permanent noise. I found if I
underclocked the CPU (XP2200) in the BIOS it cured the problem.

However, this is of course not an ideal solution. In the end I tracked it
down to my motherboard - it was a cheap Elite Systems model which seemed to
give up when certain apps pushed it too much, particularly at 100% CPU usage
for a period of time. I bought a new Gigabyte board and used all the same
components as I had done before and the problem was gone. Something to check
possibly.

Yes, if it only does it while playing games etc and doesn't restart when
just using pc for general use, I would rule the power supply out. If it was
the power supply, the pc would restart when you were using multiple drives
etc at the same time. It sounds like it may be a m/b issue.
