Are they really THE power supplies, or is it hype?...does a $200+ price tag
really equal the ultimate quality?

In real terms, how does there 510W PSU compare to an Antec 550W PSU?

Here's my take on it.You are more likely to upgrade the system/move it
on before even a less costly power supply breaks down. Why pay mega
bucks for one component?

Yes P C Power & Cooling are excellent.. so are the Antec True Power
power supplies... either one is a wise choice...

I've never tried that brand, but I have purchased Antecs for several
computers and have had very good luck with them. However, the prices I paid
were a whole lot less than $200 (more like $50 for 400 watt units). My
computers have operated just fine with 400 watt power supplies, and they are
loaded machines with lots of devices.

PCP&C is among the best, but I don't think they're worth the extra
cost because a cheaper Antec or much cheaper Fortron-Source (several
brands, incl. Sparkle, Aopen, Powerman, and Hi-Q -- see newegg.com) is
virtually as good. F-S supplies the cores of some PCP&C models,
others coming from Seasonic, Zippy, and Wintact.

A major reason PCP&C supplies do better than others of the same
advertised rating is because PCP&C takes its ratings at 40C rather
than the usual 25C, and this example:
www.pcpowercooling.com/pdf/insidestory.pdf
shows how temperature matters. They compare their 510W to a 550W
Enermax (unnamed, but it is an Enermax), and notice when the Enermax
is rated at the same 40C as the PCP&C it becomes a 366W supply while
the 510W PCP&C is a 600W when measured by Enermax's standards. Also
look at the sizes of the transformers (yellow objects between the
heatsinks) -- PCP&C's is larger, and you never want a supply with a
small transformer compared to those found in the better brands of
similar power ratings.

Source for this? I know you are wrong on at least two of the above,
and Seasonic is even in trademark violation with their Super Silencer
model (PCP&C trademarked the Silencer power supply name in the late
1980s.) I know at one time Zippy did build the core of one of their
low power models.

I haven't had contact with them in years, so things might have changed
(but I don't think so.)

They at least made the transformer of one -- Seasonic symbol on it,
and I assumed they made the whole board since they aren't a major
magnetics supplier.

I also saw "SPI," Sparkle Power International, a division of
Fortron-Source, on the tranformer of a PCP&C, and another PCP&C looked
just like a F-S, only with different heatsinks and probably a bigger
snubber resistor (some F-S brand supplies a snubber resistor runs at
almost exactly its rated power).

I've never seen a Wintact-made PCP&C core, but someone said they were
supplying them, and Wintact does make high quality supplies.
I know at one time Zippy did build the core of one of their

They're making higher power cores now, while F-S does the lower power
ones.

I've called them only twice, once for a recall on an AT model that had
the highest power rating available back then, something like 350W, and
another time when the battery went bad inside a combination
supply/UPS.

Ah, yes. A nifty product. Used a 12v/8a motorcycle battery, IIRC.
Available at Newark, etc.

Latest from Antec is the NeoPower PSU. Supports SATA, PCIE, is modular
etc.
