The a woman I helped to get her computer working right again (a Dell
XP-homeSp1) last week thinks she did something really "wrong" but doesn't
know what. Perhaps someone here can help. Everything was fine until she ran
Spybot on her own. (Note: I installed anti-scumware, showed her how to use
it and removed over 200 "problems")
Spybot found "something" she told it to fix. After it did it, Spybot said to
remove the problem she must reboot. Following the directions - she rebooted
and.... DEAD PC! Nothing! No fans wiring, no HD spin-up.... she said it's
like someone just cut it's cord the minute it shut down. She checked all
connections etc, and all was ok, but the PC remains dead. It never came out
of the reboot. She can't even boot from the WXP disks. How could Spybot do
something like this? I never even heard of such a thing. The PC is out of
warrantee and she's 74 years old so can't afford expensive phone calls to
Dell. Any suggestions? I think if it's this dead she needs to take it to a
PC shop and have a professional take a look at it. What do you think? What
does this sound like?
