We have a Pc with Windows 2000 o/s, and the date reverts to
Jan, 1 2000 after close down:

To date unfixed after;
Changing CMOS battery
Flash CMOS software
Replacing motherboard (an ASUS)

could it be a virus?
Spyware prog

or Windows problem?

Your first step must be to determine if this is a
hardware or a software issue. This is exceedingly
simple:
1. Launch Win2000.
2. Set the date.
3. Check the date.
4. Shut down the PC.
5. Turn on the PC.
6. Do not allow Win2000 to start. Get into
the BIOS setup instead.
7. Check the date.

If the date is wrong then your question has nothing
to do with Windows, and everything with your
hardware.

If the date is correct then you need to look further in
Windows. Repeat Steps 1..5 above while your PC
is not connected in any way to any other PC, server
or to the Internet. Do you still have the problem?
